Solon comes out top for social housing supply - 12/10/2018

We're proud to announce that we have topped a recently published national table for provision of new affordable homes as a proportion of existing stock.

We produced 73 new homes in 2017 - 70 for rent and 3 for low cost home ownership. This represented 6% of the Association’s total affordable housing stock of 1,220.
Paul Ville, Solon CEO, said: “We are very proud of this achievement. Housing associations of all sizes have a moral duty to deliver as many affordable homes as they can to tackle a desperate shortage. We have pulled out all the stops to do this, with the strong support and encouragement of our Board. We are delighted that a lot of hard work to design, fund and deliver these homes has paid off."
Graham Oliver, Solon Chair, said: “The support of our local councils – Bristol and South Gloucestershire – and Homes England, the Government’s agency responsible for increasing homes, was also instrumental in these results. This important support continues. Just this week we have completed the purchase of a block of 10 flats from a private landlord in Bedminster, Bristol, and will be exchanging contracts on a new scheme of 29 flats in the same area. Thanks to generous grant funding from the City Council and Homes England these homes will now be available for much needed affordable rent and contribute to the Mayor’s important housing targets."
We want to take this opportunity and thank everyone who has helped make this happen!
