Solon Housing Association is proud to unveil twenty four new homes for rent at Kelston Close in Yate. This is Solon’s largest development to date.

Working in partnership with building firm E G Carter & Co and with architects Quattro Design, the site previously housed an unoccupied care home and was purchased by Solon from South Gloucestershire Council.  With grant funding provided by the Homes and Communities Agency to support the development, the homes were completed in July 2016 with new residents moving in straight away.

The site is neighboured by two schools, a nursery and a recreation ground. The project team worked closely with Abbotswood Primary School during the construction and assisted in the creation of a piece of art to be featured on the new cul-de-sac.

Kelston Close, Yate is now home to twenty four new families. One of the new residents explained that all those involved had built her “dream house” and she and her family are overwhelmed by the quality of the modern finishes.  Each of her children has a room of their own “…we were able to move into the home almost straight away, there’s still a long way to go to make it ours, but we couldn’t have asked for a better home”.

Solon is a Bristol-based charitable Housing Association managing 1200 homes across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Richard James, Development Director at Solon said:

“Solon is very proud of the twenty four homes developed at Kelston Close which provide much needed affordable housing.  It has been a pleasure working with Carters throughout the project.  I would also like to thank South Gloucestershire Council and the Homes and Communities Agency for their support”

Phillip Barnes, Regional Manager at E G Carter said:

“As a result of our involvement in the design from inception, we were able to commence promptly. This provided programme-certainty to Solon and we are pleased that we were able to improve upon the target construction period to deliver these much needed affordable homes sooner than anticipated. This project is an example of true collaborative working”

Kate Da-Costa-Greaves from Quattro said great care was taken to ensure the homes were designed with local surroundings in mind.

(The school used a colourful tree as the main subject of their design and each leaf symbolises the schools values.)
