Service Charges

Your service charge is the money you pay towards the day-to-day running costs of the scheme or property where you live.
You will pay a service charge if you live in a property that has communal facilities or services. For example;
  • Cleaning
  • Communal Lighting
  • Door Entry System
  • Fire Alarm
  • Gardening or
  • Any other service that is maintained by us.
You may also incur a service charge if you live in a property that has aids such as an individual lift.

Service charges may change from year to year depending on the level of service required and the cost of providing that service. Any changes are normally made at the same time as any changes to your rent. We will inform you of any changes at least four weeks before they are due.

The service charge is usually included when calculating any housing benefit that you may qualify for.

Sometime residents in a shared block may wish to have a new facility, such as a shared door entry system or caretaking service. As it would be included in your service charge, any such change would only be made after full consultation with all residents.

If you are not happy with the amount of service charges that you are paying, you may have your case referred to the Government agency called the Residential Property Tribunal Services.
